Tearing down the foliage for love & hate

Bush Removal
This DIY project is removing unsightly bushes from the front of my house. Not only are these bushes an eye sore, but they are also swarming with wasps. Every year when the weather gets warm and the bushes start to swarm with huge biting, flying insects my whole family is scared to go outside for fear of getting stung. When they are outside the kids tend to leave the front door open causing wasps to fly inside.
My plan is to take down all the bushes in front of my house and replace them with something more visually appealing that will make all the neighbors jealous and me fall in love with my home’s curb appeal. I am considering planting small Emerald Green Arborvitae that I found at a local flea market for $8. Let me know your ideas below ๐ By removing these bushes not only will I get rid of the wasps, but my house will also have the most desirable on the block.
The tools I used for this job:
Positive growth.
To start I put on my gloves and used the pruning tool to remove all the branches with spikey leaves. Then I proceeded to cut off as much branch and root as possible. The pictures below (1-2) are how the bushes looked once all the leaves and branches were removed. Next thing I needed to remove were the plantโs deep roots.
Removed the spikey leafs & cut most of the branches down.
I took my shovel and dug deep around and under the roots. Once I had removed enough dirt, I began to wiggle the tree stump out of the ground.
Eventually it came out (VICTORY!!!!!).
After I removed the stump, I used the rake to rake up all the thorny leaves and branches into a pile.
My next task was to remove the other stumps/ trees.
I proceeded to remove these trees by digging up as much dirt as possible from around the tree then wiggling them until they came out of the ground.
As I started pulling up roots, I saw a lot of roots were extremely deep. I did not want any of the trees to grow back, so after some research I found out Roundup, poured directly on a cut root will kill it. I grabbed my Roundup and sprayed some on the dwelling roots and grass growing in between my front steps.
After cleaning all the cuttings this was the final result.
Final Review
I did not have a chain saw or electric pole cutter, so this job was a little strenuous but definitely able to be done. A good chainsaw costs about $200+. If you do not have the money to buy a chain saw, I suggest you use the shovel method. After everything was finished, I spent about $114 & 8 hours doing this project. Some of the supplies I had on hand such as the pruner tool and Roundup, so I saved money on supplies. If you have bushes or are planning on planting outdoor bushes or plants in front of your house, I suggest you purchase a pruner tool, it is a necessity. You may also want to keep gloves and Roundup (or other weed & grass killer) on hand… those are a yarders necessity as well.
I left tired and with a small blister on my hand, but my frontage was a blank slate for me to fill the way I wanted it ๐.
